Thousands of drag racing fans braved wet the first day, cold the second and finally got warm dry weather last weekend for the O'Reilly NHRA Midwest Nationals at Gateway International Raceway in Madison.

According to track officials, the cooler weather meant excellent track conditions Saturday and Sunday, leading to a number of new track records.

In addition to the action on the track, fans got a chance to get up close with drivers and their teams, as well as look over and participate in a number of other attractions over the weekend."Crowds were good, we were very pleased," said track spokesman Brandon W. Mudd.

Gateway does not release attendance figures.
